The Gods’ Council gets together once every millennium to choose the destiny of humanity, deciding that mankind’s 7 million years of unredeemable history gives justification for their extinction. The story focuses on a young adult named Atsushi Nakajima. After being kicked out of his orphanage, Atsushi stops the suicide of a detective named Osamu Dazai, believing he is drowning in the river. During his interactions with Dazai, Atsushi learns he is gifted with a supernatural ability capable of transforming him into a berserker white tiger in the moonlight; this has made the orphanage torture him and kick him out in the past. Dazai recruits him into the agency, and there he encounters many other power users as they tackle different cases and events taking place within the city of Yokohama, a place overflowing with individuals with supernatural abilities.

Denji is a young man tangled in poverty, working off his deceased father’s debt to the yakuza by laboring as a Devil Hunter, aided by Pochita, his canine partner, and Chainsaw Devil. Denji is backstabbed by the yakuza, who kills him for an agreement with the Zombie Devil. Pochita makes a contract with Denji, combining him as a human-devil hybrid, under the circumstances that Denji lives out his muted dreams of living a raw life, such as having bread with jam or dropping in love with a woman and being close to one. By tugging on a cord in his chest, Denji becomes Chainsaw Man and massacres the yakuza.
